How Russia's TV doctor Yelena Malysheva built a fortune beyond medicine
Yelena Malysheva, a prominent TV doctor in Russia, has amassed a vast fortune over decades. Her career began in the 1990s on state television, where she became a household name through her long-running health advice programme. Today, her wealth extends far beyond broadcasting, with luxury properties both in Russia and abroad.
Malysheva first gained fame as the host of Health (Zdorovye), a show that aired for nearly 20 years. Viewers trusted her career advice, which helped her establish a positive public image. By the 2000s and 2010s, she expanded into business, launching a network of private clinics, selling dietary supplements, and marketing health products. These ventures grew her estimated fortune to between 150 and 500 million rubles (around $2–7 million).
Her reputation faced challenges in the 2020s after controversies over pseudoscientific claims, COVID-19 misinformation, and the promotion of unproven treatments. Regulators fined her, and public criticism mounted, damaging her credibility. Despite this, her business interests continued to thrive, increasing her wealth.
Malysheva's property portfolio reflects her success. In Moscow, her family owns a 320-million-ruble (about $3.5 million) apartment on Vorobyovy Hills, filled with antique furniture, natural wood finishes, and a working fireplace. They also have a cottage in one of the city's most exclusive suburban areas.
Abroad, the Malyshevs possess a two-storey waterfront mansion along the Hudson River, straddling New Jersey and New York. Valued at roughly $6.5 million, the estate includes 21 rooms, six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and opulent interiors featuring marble and gold leaf.
On her programme, Malysheva once shared a personal philosophy: 'Forgive, even when it's hard.' She credited this rule to lessons from her mother during childhood.
Malysheva's career has spanned television, entrepreneurship, and real estate investments. Though her public image has faced setbacks, her business ventures and property holdings remain substantial. Her wealth and influence continue to shape her legacy in Russia and beyond.
