Helen Keller International Bangladesh has completed a year-long project aimed at boosting financial inclusion and income opportunities for disadvantaged women. The initiative took place in two remote unions of Bishwambharpur Upazila, Sunamganj—Dakshin Badaghat and Palash. A closing event marked the project’s success, with key officials and community leaders in attendance.

The event began with a welcome address by Pooja Pandey Rana, country director for Helen Keller International in Bangladesh and Nepal. She highlighted the project’s goals and achievements over the past year.

SM Abu Sufiun, director general of the department of livestock services, attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury, project director of the department of agricultural extension, and Md Amimul Ehshan, deputy director of the department of fisheries. Project Manager Aisha Rahman presented the project’s outcomes, sharing a scalable model for expanding women’s economic opportunities. She also discussed key learnings from the initiative’s implementation in Sunamganj. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Md Mahmudul Hasan, deputy country director of Helen Keller International Bangladesh. The audience included union chairmen, development partners, media representatives, and officials from various government departments.

The project successfully created pathways for financial inclusion and income generation among marginalised women in Sunamganj. The model presented offers a framework for scaling similar efforts in other regions. Officials and partners have acknowledged its potential for broader impact.
