Water prices in Hamburg rise - Hamburg Water Bills to Rise 5.5% in 2026, Remaining Cheaper Than Many Major Cities
Hamburg residents will see a rise in their water bills from January 2026, with the price per cubic meter increasing by 5.5 percent. Despite this, water in Hamburg remains cheaper than in many other major German cities.
The price hike, from €1.99 to €2.05 per cubic meter, is due to expected cost increases for Hamburg Wasser. This will also lead to a monthly rise for residential water meters, from €3.24 to €3.42. Despite this increase, water in Hamburg is still more affordable than in cities like Berlin, Munich, and Cologne. In fact, Hamburg's water bills will remain in the lower third when compared to Germany's 15 largest cities in 2025.
Starting January, Hamburg residents can expect to pay more for their water, but it will still be cheaper than in many other major German cities. The price adjustment reflects the expected cost increases for Hamburg Wasser.
