Gridlock in Ueckermünde: City unveils Schleichweg as access route

The construction of the Ueckermünde bypass road, which began on Monday, has caused significant traffic disruptions in the city. To help alleviate the congestion, the city has introduced an alternative route for local traffic.

The alternative route, specified by Mayor Jürgen Kliewe, takes vehicles from the Old Bollwerk, through Ueckerdamm, and Kirchengasse. Notably, this route does not pass through the city center, unlike the original route that is affected by the construction work.

To facilitate smoother traffic flow on the alternative route, a barrier that previously restricted access on one of the streets will be removed. This move is part of the city's response to the traffic issues caused by the construction work.

However, it's important to note that only one car can pass the bollards at a time on the original route, and this is not the case on the alternative route. This has led to traffic jams all the way to Edeka on Belliner Straße, even on the alternative route.

To manage the flow of traffic on the alternative route, cars are signaling to each other with hand gestures to determine the order of passage. Despite these measures, cars are still expected to follow the rules of the road.

Mayor Kliewe has expressed his concerns about the traffic chaos caused by the construction work, stating that it has extended traffic jams up to the traffic light on Chausseestraße. The closure of Pfarrwiesenallee due to the construction work has further compounded the issues.

The city of Ueckermünde encourages locals to use the alternative route to help reduce congestion and alleviate the traffic chaos caused by the construction work on the bypass road. It's hoped that these measures will help restore normal traffic flow in the city as quickly as possible.

The city's response to traffic issues caused by the bypass road construction includes removing a restricted barrier on Ueckerdamm street to facilitate smoother traffic flow on the alternative route. financial contributions from various industries are being sought to expedite the removal of the barrier and improvements on the alternative route, which might enhance the efficiency of the city's finance sector and the transportation industry.
