Greifswald's DIC Moves to BioTechnikum & TZV with €17M Funding

Greifswald's Digital Innovation Center (DIC) is moving to the BioTechnikum and Technology Center (TZV), with a €17 million funding package remaining unchanged. The city aims to strengthen both locations and make better use of them.

The TZV will be modernized to create new spaces for demonstrations and modern conference areas, targeting companies from industry, services, and commerce. The project, carried out by WITENO GmbH, involves the city, Sparkasse Vorpommern, and the University of Greifswald. Construction will be faster as it's done in the existing portfolio, avoiding challenges like heritage protection and pollutants.

The DIC will now be integrated into the BioTechnikum and TZV instead of the Old Mensa on Schießwall. The BioTechnikum will also be modernized, creating a meeting and testing ground for the digital transformation and equipping the ground floor with meeting and demonstration spaces. The city aims to expand the laboratory building at the TZV, resulting in around 3,500 m² of attractive office space and up-to-date meeting and event areas. Existing co-working spaces in the BioTechnikum will be included in the modernization, and outdated technical equipment will be renewed.

Greifswald's mayor welcomes the coordinated plans, stating they are a win for both existing city facilities and future target groups, ultimately benefiting the entire city. The modernization of the TZV and BioTechnikum, along with the integration of the DIC, is expected to strengthen Greifswald's position as a hub for innovation and digital transformation.
