GM Energy Debuts 10.6 kW and 17.7 kW Power Storage Solutions

GM Energy has made a significant leap in home energy management with the launch of the PowerBank, a stationary storage product designed specifically for electric vehicle (EV) owners. This innovative device offers a range of benefits, providing customers with more control over their energy use and helping to mitigate power outages, integrate renewable energy options, and unlock additional values.

Key Features and Benefits

The PowerBank allows users to capture and store energy from the grid or compatible solar panels for later use. In the event of a blackout, the system serves as a reliable source of backup power, keeping homes powered when the grid fails. This feature is particularly valuable, ensuring that homeowners are never left in the dark.

The system supports smart charging, enabling energy use optimization by charging during off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper and discharging during peak times to reduce costs. It also integrates seamlessly with V2H-capable GM EVs, allowing for bidirectional charging and energy transfer between the vehicle and home, enhancing energy freedom and flexibility.

Additional Benefits and Features

The PowerBank offers several other advantages. As a backup power source, it keeps the home powered when the grid fails by using stored energy from the PowerBank or from a compatible GM EV with bidirectional charging. This feature is crucial for maintaining essential appliances during emergencies.

The PowerBank is available for purchase as part of the GM Energy Home System bundle. Customers who previously purchased the GM Energy V2H Bundle can also add on a PowerBank. However, it's important to note that power supply may be interrupted, and the PowerBank is not recommended for medical devices.

The PowerBank's capacity to power an average American home can be affected by various factors, including weather conditions, battery life, and usage. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates average daily home energy appliance usage to be 30 kWh. With two 17.7kWh units, the PowerBank can power an average American home for up to 20 hours.
