Global Experts Unite to Revolutionize Farming with Digital and Genetic Breakthroughs
The conference opened with speeches by distinguished guests: Svetlana Terekhova, Deputy Minister of Agro-Industrial Complex and Consumer Market of Sverdlovsk Region; Rao Zahid Abbas, Professor of Agricultural Parasitology at the University of Faisalabad (Pakistan); Keita Fodé, Head of Human Resources at the Polytechnic Agricultural Institute (Mali); and Liu Bojun, Professor at the Institute of Food Science and Engineering, Jilin University (China).
The event brought together over 500 scientists, educators, graduate students, agribusiness representatives, and government officials from Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Mali, China, and other countries.
The organizing committee was chaired by Olga Loretz, Rector of the Ural State Agrarian University (Ural GAU) and Doctor of Biological Sciences. In her remarks, she noted: "For over 85 years, Ural GAU has served as a reliable bridge between fundamental science and the agro-industrial sector. Today, our researchers' innovations are real-world technologies in fields and farms across the country. This conference demonstrates how the traditions of the Ural agrarian school blend with cutting-edge research. We see many projects already being implemented in agricultural production—new crop varieties, digital field solutions, and biotechnologies that reduce environmental impact, among others. Our mission is to ensure the rapid and effective transfer of these developments into practice so they deliver tangible benefits to farmers and strengthen the nation's food security."
Participants focused on the digitalization and automation of agriculture, advancements in breeding and genetics, and the adoption of resource-saving and green technologies. Discussions also covered workforce training for the agro-industrial sector and legal reforms needed to drive technological progress.
Experts agreed that achieving technological sovereignty in agriculture is possible through joint efforts by science, business, and government. This will require targeted funding for promising research, infrastructure to accelerate innovation adoption, and an updated regulatory framework.
According to specialists, digital solutions are already helping farmers cut costs and boost yields, while investments in resource-efficient technologies pay off in the medium term and enhance the competitiveness of Russian agricultural products in domestic and global markets.
The conference will conclude with the publication of a collection of scientific papers based on the presentations, as well as policy recommendations for relevant ministries and agencies to improve science and technology development in the agro-industrial sector.
