GLIL Infrastructure Launches Net Zero Investment Framework Backed by Major Pension Funds

GLIL Infrastructure, a UK-based investor managing £3.6bn in assets, has introduced a new investment management framework. This move, supported by key pension funds, aims to bring substance to net zero ambitions in the infrastructure sector. Beth Breen, ESG Analyst at GLIL, believes the new framework will significantly contribute to this goal.

GLIL, a partnership of UK pension funds investing in core infrastructure opportunities, has adopted the Net Zero Investment Framework. This makes GLIL one of the first investors to apply this guidance specifically for infrastructure assets. The UK pension funds backing this initiative include the London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA), the Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF), and the Railways Pension Scheme (RPS), who started using the framework in March 2023.

The new framework aims to help GLIL achieve its target of reaching net zero by 2050. So far, GLIL has deployed £3bn into a diverse portfolio of infrastructure assets, including renewable energy, battery storage, and regulated utilities. The latest investment was in a portfolio of 247MW of operational UK solar assets, demonstrating GLIL's commitment to clean energy transition.

GLIL Infrastructure's adoption of the Net Zero Investment Framework is a significant step towards achieving its 2050 net zero target. With the support of major UK pension funds, GLIL is set to make a substantial impact on the infrastructure sector's sustainability. The new framework will guide GLIL's future investments, ensuring they align with its climate goals and contribute to a greener future.
