Glasgow Secures £1.78m for Six Green and Tech Projects

Glasgow City Council has secured £1.78m from the UK government's Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to support six new projects aimed at boosting local economies, enhancing the environment, and promoting community engagement. The funding, approved by an expert jury, focuses on growing social enterprises, transitioning to a green economy, and supporting the tech sector.

The largest share, £500,000, will bolster the Business Start-Up service, with an emphasis on fostering social enterprises and aiding deprived communities. Another £100,000 will fund the Communities Mobilisation Programme, encouraging the shift to a green economy through arts and cultural activities.

The Climate Investment Pipeline will benefit from £305,000, including support for the Greenprint for Investment projects. Tech Community Support will receive £150,000 to repair the tech ecosystem and attract investment through events and online tools. Ecosystem Growth funding of £600,000 will support tech SMEs and help partners develop projects. Additionally, £125,000 in Digital Development Grants will assist more businesses in accessing the Digital Boost programme.

Cllr Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, expressed that the funding will support the development of businesses in the tech and green sectors and involve local communities in the transition towards a Net Zero city and economy. The projects aim to help communities learn new skills, improve local economies, and enhance the environment.
