Giga’s AI breakthrough defies hate as founders secure $61M from DoorDash and Fortune 100

San Francisco-based startup Giga, founded in 2023, has made waves in the AI industry. Despite facing online hate, its founders, Varun Vummadi and Esha Manideep, have achieved remarkable success, attracting significant investment and high-profile clients.

Varun and Esha, both graduates of IIT Kharagpur, turned down lucrative offers to pursue Giga. Varun rejected a Stanford PhD and a $525,000 quant trader job, while Esha declined a $150,000 offer from an Indian trading firm. Their dedication has paid off, with Giga raising $61 million in Series A funding from investors including DoorDash and several Fortune 100 companies.

Giga's innovative technology enables AI to speak and chat simultaneously in multiple languages, integrating with large enterprise systems. DoorDash is already using it, with several Fortune 100 companies set to follow. Despite their achievements, the founders faced racist and appearance-based trolling on social media. Users mocked their accents and Indian background, sparking outrage and support from others who condemned the hate.

Varun and Esha's story highlights the persistent bias faced by Indian professionals in global tech spaces, despite their accomplishments. Their success demonstrates that brilliance transcends accent and appearance. With Giga's groundbreaking technology and significant investment, the future looks promising for these Forbes 30 Under 30 honourees.
