Germany's Minister Emphasizes Economic Potential of Space Industry

German Minister of Research, Technology and Space Dorothee Baer has underscored the increasing significance of the aerospace industry. She recently stated that 'Space is increasingly becoming an economic space' and stressed Germany's need to participate in its development. This comes as the global space industry is projected to grow by around ten percent in the coming years.

Baer's remarks were made at an entrepreneurs' conference in Munich, where she also highlighted Germany's commitment to space research. The country has allocated over nine billion euros for this purpose during the current legislative period. Furthermore, the Space Innovation Hub, backed by the BMFTR, is supporting start-ups and research in the space sector.

Germany's dedication to space is not just financial. It has designated space as a strategic research area in its high-tech agenda. As the largest financial contributor to the European Space Agency (ESA), Germany is playing a pivotal role in the organisation's 50th anniversary this year.
