Minimum wage for care workers to rise in two steps - Germany’s Elderly Care Workers to Get 5% Pay Rise by 2027
Minimum wages for elderly care workers in Germany will rise in two stages by mid-2027. The decision, made unanimously by the Nursing Care Minimum Wage Commission, affects around 1.3 million employees across the sector. Both employers and unions backed the gradual increase, which will apply to nursing assistants, qualified staff, and skilled professionals.
On November 19, 2025, the Nursing Care Commission—made up of employer and employee representatives—agreed to raise wages. The first increase takes effect on July 1, 2026, followed by a second on July 1, 2027. Each step will lift pay by 2.6%, resulting in an average total rise of about five percent across different roles.
The new wage structure will apply to all facilities covered by the care sector’s minimum wage rules. Around 1.3 million workers will benefit from the gradual pay rises. The government is expected to finalise the changes through official regulation in the coming months.
