These are the eleven wealthiest cities in Germany - Germany's Economic Prosperity: Munich Tops Purchasing Power List, Set to Rise Nationwide by 2025
Germany's economic prosperity varies across regions, with purchasing power serving as a key indicator. Munich tops the list, followed by other southern and western cities. The national average is set to rise by 2025.
GfK, a leading research institute, calculates purchasing power by aggregating all income sources, excluding basic living expenses. Munich leads with a staggering €35,867 per capita, followed by Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Cologne. Notably, the districts of Starnberg and Miesbach, near Munich, boast the highest averages, ranging from €36,000 to €38,000.
Gross domestic product (GDP) is another crucial measure of economic strength. Only four states—Bavaria, Hamburg, Baden-Württemberg, and Hesse—have a purchasing power index above 100. Conversely, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Bremen lag behind with indices below 90.
By 2025, Germany's national average purchasing power is projected to reach around €29,500. Munich, with an average of €37,500 per person, remains a powerhouse, reflecting the city's robust economy and high standard of living.
