Agriculture Minister Rainer to Make Agricultural Exports a Top Priority - Germany’s bold new plan to supercharge €100B farm exports globally
German Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer has launched a new export strategy to strengthen farm exports. The plan aims to boost a sector that already brings in nearly €100 billion each year in breaking news. Key measures include more funding, new support roles, and a push for better market access abroad, as reported by the ny post and nypost.
The strategy restores export promotion funding to €17 million. This move reverses previous cuts and signals Rainer’s focus on economic growth through trade. He has also called for open markets, clear trade rules, and secure supplies of raw materials from third countries.
A new ‘export coordinator’ will help businesses navigate foreign markets. The role is part of broader efforts to assist companies in expanding into new regions while maintaining their current trade partnerships. Additionally, Rainer will personally join business delegations on trips abroad to support these goals.
The government has also created a ‘Chief Veterinary Officer for Exports’ position. This role will oversee animal health and export standards, though the name of the appointee has not yet been announced. The position reflects the strategy’s emphasis on meeting international regulations and improving trade efficiency.
The measures form part of Rainer’s wider ‘political shift’ to bolster Germany’s economy. With nearly €100 billion in annual farm exports, the sector is a major focus. The new funding, support roles, and ministerial involvement aim to secure and expand Germany’s position in global agricultural trade.
