Germany welcomes its visitors starting from May with a ticket!

Introducing the Germany Ticket: A Game-Changer for Public Transport in Germany

Starting April 3rd, the long-awaited Germany Ticket, or Deutschlandticket, will be available for purchase, revolutionizing public transport across Germany. This monthly subscription ticket, valid from May 1st, will provide unlimited travel on regional and local public transport systems, including buses, trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and regional trains.

The cost of the pass will be a consistent €58 per month, a slight increase from its initial price of €49 when it was first introduced in May 2023. The ticket can be subscribed to and cancelled monthly, with a one-month notice, and will be offered via local public transport associations. It's important to note that the ticket does not cover long-distance trains like ICE, IC, or EC services.

The Germany Ticket is more than just a ticket. It's a step towards a more sustainable future. By simplifying travel with one unified ticket valid across all regional and local public transport systems nationwide, it encourages a shift away from cars, with estimates suggesting that 12-16% of journeys made with the ticket were previously by car.

Moreover, the ticket contributes significantly to climate protection. Since its introduction, it is estimated that it has saved 4.2 to 6.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions. It provides an affordable and flexible option that is attractive both to locals and travelers, offering unlimited regional mobility.

With over 14 million users already, the ticket supports the German Federal Government's goal of enhancing sustainable mobility and easing urban and regional transport burdens.

The funding for the Germany Ticket and the nationwide public transport and regional flat rate is being finalized in the Bundestag, with the Bundesrat needing to give its approval. The annual contribution from the federal government to the states is €1.5 billion, with the states also contributing an equal amount.

The Germany Ticket is a crucial component for the mobility transition, set to make public transport more accessible and affordable, and encourage a shift towards a more sustainable, car-free lifestyle. For now, the ticket will be available temporarily also in paper form.
