New Economic Security Strategy to Prevent Sabotage - Germany unveils economic security plan amid Berlin power grid arson probe
Germany has taken new steps to protect its economy from external threats. The cabinet approved a National Economic Security Strategy aimed at reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and shielding businesses from espionage. Meanwhile, authorities continue their hunt for those behind a major arson attack on Berlin's power grid.
The strategy focuses on four key areas: diversifying supply chains, boosting European production, stockpiling essential goods, and resisting economic coercion. It also highlights the need to safeguard sensitive company data from espionage, sabotage, or terrorist threats. A National Research Security Platform will be set up to coordinate these efforts.
While the goals include building resilient supply chains and a sustainable raw materials strategy, no specific measures have yet been announced. The document remains broad in its approach, leaving detailed implementation for future discussions. In a separate development, investigators are still pursuing leads in the Berlin power grid arson case. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has received hundreds of tips since the attack. To encourage further information, authorities have offered a €1 million reward for details that help solve the case by 24 February.
The new economic security plan sets out Germany's intentions to reduce vulnerabilities in critical sectors. The ongoing investigation into the Berlin power grid attack shows how seriously authorities treat threats to national infrastructure. Both efforts reflect a wider push to strengthen resilience against external risks.
