Drones with Thermal Imaging Cameras for Fawn Rescue - Germany Protects Wildlife with Drones: 118,500 Euros Allocated
The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture has allocated funds to protect wildlife, specifically fawns, rabbits, and nesting birds, from mowing machines. The Ministry of the Environment of Rhineland-Palatinate has approved 30 funding applications totaling over 118,500 euros for purchasing drones equipped with thermal cameras.
Fawns, rabbits, and nesting birds often seek shelter in tall grass during spring, putting them at risk of injury or death from mowing machines. Fawns, in particular, remain motionless on the ground, making them difficult to spot. To address this issue, the use of drones with thermal cameras has been strengthened in Rhineland-Pfalz. These drones can detect the animals' heat signatures, helping farmers avoid them during mowing. The use of such technology has been permanently allowed on agricultural land since the end of last year.
The Ministry of the Environment of Rhineland-Palatinate has approved funding for 30 applications, totalling over 118,500 euros, to purchase drones with thermal cameras. This initiative aims to protect young fawns, rabbits, and nesting birds from mowing machines, ensuring their safety and well-being.
