Georgina Chapman's Finances in Turmoil Post-Weinstein Divorce
Georgina Chapman, co-founder of the fashion label Marchesa, has faced a series of financial and legal challenges following her divorce from disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein in 2021. Weinstein was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Chapman's West Village apartment at 99 Jane Street is now at the centre of a foreclosure lawsuit. She and her brother, Edward Chapman, defaulted on a $2.5 million mortgage in November 2022, and the condo board is suing them for over $7,000 in unpaid common charges. Meanwhile, Marchesa is grappling with its own financial woes. The company is being sued by GFP Real Estate for $1.4 million in back rent for its lease at 80 Eighth Avenue. Customers have also complained about not receiving refunds for returned items.
Chapman's divorce from Weinstein in 2021, following his conviction, has likely delayed the relaunch or rebranding of Marchesa. Despite receiving an estimated $15 to $20 million in a confidential divorce settlement, she has not been able to resolve these financial issues.
Georgina Chapman's personal and professional finances remain in turmoil following her divorce from Harvey Weinstein. Her West Village apartment is facing foreclosure, Marchesa is dealing with back rent and customer refund issues, and the future of her fashion label remains uncertain.
