Gelsenkirchen’s *Fit for Life* Teaches Students Real-World Survival Skills

A new initiative called Fit for Life has launched in Gelsenkirchen to help students learn practical life skills. The programme connects schools with local experts who teach topics like financial planning and insurance choices. Around 300 schools across Germany are already taking part through the LifeTeachUs platform.

The project was developed by LifeTeachUs, a startup founded by Ludwig Thiede. It works alongside the IHK North Westphalia and the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Education. Their goal is to bring real-world expertise directly into classrooms.

Teachers and students can book sessions with professionals using a dedicated app. The lessons cover essential skills such as budgeting, contract understanding, and responsible decision-making. Organisers now aim to expand the programme to more schools nationwide. While the Helios Gesamtschule in NRW has participated in health and education projects since 2025, no direct link to Fit for Life has been confirmed. The initiative remains focused on growing its network of experts and partner schools.

The Fit for Life programme is already active in hundreds of schools. By linking students with industry professionals, it provides hands-on learning in key areas of adult life. Expansion plans will see more schools joining in the coming months.
