Gas Leaks Shut Down Bahnhofstrasse and Hittfelder Schulstrasse
In the quaint town of Hittfeld, construction work on two key areas—Station Street and Hittfeld School Street—is set to begin on September 2. The repairs, necessitated by unexpected leaks in gas pipelines, are expected to last several weeks and will significantly impact traffic in the area.
The first phase of construction will focus on the lower part of Station Street, from the junction Am Goehlenbach to the junction Kirchstraße. This section will be fully closed for traffic for approximately six weeks, depending on the extent of the damage. Pedestrians, however, will still be able to pass through the closed area.
During this phase, traffic will be diverted via Maschener Kirchweg, Eichendorffstraße, Lindhorster Straße, Jesteburger Straße, Hittfelder Landstraße (L213), Am Goehlenbach, and Bahnhofstraße. This detour allows vehicles to bypass the construction area safely during the repair work.
Following the completion of the first construction phase, Hittfeld School Street will be closed for three to four weeks. The official detour for this phase will be the same as the one mentioned above.
The repairs are scheduled for the near future to prevent any potential issues during the winter and upcoming heating period. They are crucial to ensure safety and prevent any problems that could arise due to the weakened gas pipelines.
It's important to note that the access road Maschener Kirchweg is not closed and will serve as a detour for traffic. Buses will also be rerouted along this official detour.
Residents need not worry, as the repairs do not pose a danger to them. The gas pipelines under Station Street and Hittfeld School Street were originally scheduled for renewal in the summer holidays of 2026, but the damage was found to be greater than expected, necessitating the early repairs.
We advise all motorists and pedestrians to plan their routes carefully during this period to avoid any inconvenience. The construction work and closures will undoubtedly affect traffic in Hittfeld, but the repairs are essential to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
