Freedom Mobile in Canada finally acquires the necessary smartphones and network coverage to contend effectively in the market.

Freedom Mobile Strengthens Position with LTE Network Expansion

Freedom Mobile, the fourth-largest wireless carrier in Canada, is making significant strides in its LTE network expansion, particularly in major cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. This move is part of the company's mission to improve coverage and network quality, and to capture more market share, especially in suburban areas.

The expansion includes the deployment of Extended Range LTE technology, launched after 2016, aimed at delivering stronger signals in difficult indoor environments like basements and elevators. Additionally, network densification initiatives have focused on urban-suburban areas, including Edmonton, Calgary, and the outskirts of Vancouver, which are important growth markets due to rising demand and infrastructure investments.

Freedom Mobile's LTE network now supports Band 66, which will become standard in all upcoming releases. By the end of 2017, it is expected that every phone in North America should support Band 66. This expansion has enabled Freedom Mobile to add over 370,000 new connections in 2024, positioning them as a viable alternative to the Big Three Canadian carriers in certain areas.

In terms of devices, Freedom Mobile is now offering the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) phones, with plans to sell the LTE-ready Galaxy S8 alongside other major carriers. The company also boasts the lowest outright price for the LG G6 in the country.

The user, who currently uses the LG V20 on Freedom Mobile's network, finds the LTE coverage reliable in most parts of the Greater Toronto region, despite experiencing inconsistent speeds compared to Rogers. The user is considering switching to Freedom Mobile's $59 8GB plan that includes U.S. roaming due to frequent travel to the U.S.

The results for Freedom Mobile's second quarter will be released on April 12. The most expensive Freedom Mobile plan, at $59, offers 8GB of Canadian data and 1GB of U.S. roaming, making it one of the best wireless plans in Ontario and British Columbia.

Freedom Mobile, formerly known as Wind Mobile, is expanding its LTE network in major cities across Canada. The company added 9,500 users in the last quarter, after reaching the million-customer milestone in the fourth quarter of 2016.
