Free Credit Compass Tool Helps UK SMEs Decode Their Financial Health

A new free tool aims to help small businesses better understand their credit scores. iwoca, a leading business lender, has launched Credit Compass to give UK SMEs clearer insights into their financial standing. Many owners currently struggle with credit awareness, leaving them unsure why loan applications fail.

The tool was officially announced on March 10, 2026, offering a detailed breakdown of key financial metrics. It covers Equifax business credit scores, credit history, financial status, and Companies House assessments. Users can now see exactly what lenders review when evaluating their applications.

Research shows 51% of UK SMEs either haven't checked their credit score recently or don't understand its meaning. Even fewer—just 20%—trust credit agencies to assess their financial health accurately. Finance brokers highlight the problem: 62% say rejected businesses don't grasp why their applications were turned down, while 71% believe these firms lack guidance on improving credit-worthiness. Olusegun Shiroye, founder of Bolfis Limited, already finds the tool valuable. He uses it to track his company's financial health and growth. Later in 2026, Credit Compass will expand by integrating Open Banking, providing deeper operational insights to strengthen credit profiles. iwoca's CEO, Christoph Rieche, wants to make credit scores more reliable and actionable for millions of small businesses. The goal is to reduce confusion and help owners take concrete steps toward better financial health.

Credit Compass arrives as many SMEs face uncertainty over their credit standing. The tool provides free, transparent access to key financial data, helping businesses identify weaknesses and improve their chances of securing funding. Integration with Open Banking later this year will add further support for credit-worthiness assessments.
