Franziska Erdle takes helm of Germany’s pharmacists with bold reform agenda
Franziska Erdle has taken over as the new CEO of the German Pharmacists’ Association (ABDA), replacing the previous leadership and bringing experience from her roles in the metals and chemical industries. Claudia Korf will support her as deputy CEO during the transition.
Erdle previously led the German Metals Industry Association (WVM) and worked for the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI). Her first priority is addressing the proposed pharmacy reform, which she believes could harm local pharmacies and patient care. She plans to push for major revisions and meet with Bundestag members to strengthen the sector’s position.
Inside the ABDA, Erdle is restructuring the organisation into 14 specialised units, replacing the old system of departments and executive offices. The changes should be finalised by midyear.
She also wants to improve internal communication and introduce AI tools, aiming to modernise the German Pharmacists’ House and secure its future.
Erdle’s leadership will focus on stabilising pharmacies while reforming the ABDA’s operations. The new structure and technology upgrades are set to roll out within months. Her efforts will test whether the association can adapt to industry challenges while protecting local services.
