Former CEO Beulah Coeli Fiel Acquitted in Waste Dumping Case
A trial court in Bataan has dismissed a case against the former CEO of Econest Waste Management Corporation, Beulah Coeli Fiel, for alleged dumping of hazardous and liquid wastes at the Hermosa Sanitary Landfill. The case was dismissed due to insufficient evidence to prove the CEO's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
The complainant's notices of violation did not specify hazardous wastes. Two former employees claimed to have witnessed toxic waste dumping but provided no proof. A prosecution witness admitted no untreated hazardous wastes were disposed at the landfill by their company. Another witness testified about a disgusting smell at the landfill but could not identify the source or confirm it was hazardous.
The Hermosa Sanitary Landfill was closed by the LGU without final findings from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Environmental Management Bureau (EMB). The CEO, who was released from a P120,000 cash bond, expressed relief and gratitude for the dismissal of the charges.
The dismissal of the case against Beulah Coeli Fiel comes after a thorough review of the evidence. Despite claims of toxic waste dumping, insufficient proof led to the case's dismissal. The former CEO is now free from these allegations.
