Flytoget's Oaris Trains Face Another Setback: All Eight Pulled Out of Service for Repairs
Norway's Flytoget is facing another setback with its Oaris trains. Just a year after their initial launch, cracks in the bogies forced them out of service. Now, all eight trains are being taken out of service again due to recurring issues. They will be out of service for a year for repairs in Norway and Sweden.
The main challenge lies in the installation and configuration of the external doors and the replacement of seals around the external windows. Flytoget aimed to acquire the Oaris trains to enhance its image of exclusivity, but no other company has ordered them. This raises questions about the reliability of these trains. Meanwhile, Flytoget's 16 Class 71 trains from ADtranz have proven very reliable and ensure the maintenance of operations.
The future of the Oaris trains remains uncertain. It is unclear whether all eight trains will return to service after the repairs. Flytoget's manager, whose name is not specified, will have to address these issues to ensure the smooth operation of Flytoget's services.
The Oaris trains will be out of service for a year, causing inconvenience to passengers. The merger of Flytoget and Vy by 2028 is expected to make better use of the heavily used Gardermobanen line to Oslo, potentially reducing prices and increasing passenger numbers. However, the reliability of the Oaris trains remains a concern that needs to be addressed.
