Five Canadian Provinces Boost Minimum Wage Today, Alberta Stays at $15

Five Canadian provinces are set to increase their minimum wage today, with Alberta remaining the only province without a boost, keeping its rate at $15 per hour, the lowest in the country.

Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island are all raising their minimum wage. Ontario's new rate is $17.60 per hour, while Manitoba's is $16 per hour. Saskatchewan's increase takes it to $15.35 per hour, matching Alberta's current rate. Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are both raising their wage to $16.50 per hour.

These increases are tied to Canada's consumer price index, which measures news. Earlier this year, British Columbia, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador had already raised their minimum wage. In Switzerland, the canton of Lucerne has not yet determined its new minimum wage for this year, while other regions like the construction industry agreed to a 1.4% increase for 2025.

Today's minimum wage increases in five Canadian provinces reflect efforts to keep up with the cost of living. Alberta remains the only province without an increase, maintaining the lowest minimum wage in the country at $15 per hour.
