Revisiting UFC's Past and Present

Edwards' UFC Journey

Before joining the UFC in late 2014, Leon Edwards was an 8-1 fighter and the current BAMMA British welterweight champion. Edwards tasted his first UFC defeat in November 2014 against Claudio Silva but quickly redeemed himself with a knockout win and a "Performance of the Night" bonus against Seth Baczynski.

UFC Fight Night Bout: Burns Battles Brady

In 2015, Edwards faced Kamaru Usman, dropping his record against the eventual UFC welterweight champion. However, since that defeat, Edwards has remained undefeated with notable wins over Dom Waters, Albert Tumenov, Vicente Luque, Bryan Barberena, and Nate Diaz.

Edwards entered the UFC welterweight title picture in 2017 and climbed to the third spot in the rankings. His inactivity due to various reasons led to a removal from the rankings, but Edwards bounced back and claimed the welterweight title in March 2023, defeating then-champion Kamaru Usman.

Currently, Edwards holds the No. 1 spot in the UFC welterweight rankings following his title win and successful title defense[1].

Sean Brady's Rise

Sean Brady, who captured the Cage Fury FC welterweight title twice, joined the UFC in 2019 with a 10-0 record. Since then, Brady has earned victories over Court McGee, Ismail Naurdiev, Christian Aguilera, Jake Matthews, and Michael Chiesa, bringing his record to 15-0 and securing the No. 8 ranking in the UFC's 170-pound weight class.

However, Brady was dealt his first defeat by Belal Muhammad in October 2022. He returned to the Octagon in December 2023 with a decision win over Kelvin Gastelum, and then, after overcoming an injury, Brady defeated former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns in a five-round affair in September 2024[2].

Brady currently ranks fifth in the UFC welterweight division, poised to prove himself against former champion Leon Edwards.
