Saarland CDU Advocates for Directing Infrastructure Funds to Municipalities

In a collective effort to improve the infrastructure of municipalities across Saarland, the state government, along with key figures such as Roland Theis, Stephan Toscani, and Marcus Hoffeld, are advocating for the entire 1.2 billion euros from the federal infrastructure package to be directed towards municipal infrastructure.

Roland Theis, a CDU federal MP, is suggesting that the infrastructure package should be implemented quickly and effectively, producing visible results in the municipalities. He emphasises the need for less paperwork and more tangible benefits for the citizens. The proposal aligns with the economic stimulus package of 2009, where procedures were simplified and direct awards were possible.

The Saarland municipalities, which are among the financially weakest in Germany, bear the main burden of maintaining public infrastructure. The need for investment at the municipal level is evident, with the need spanning across schools, kindergartens, municipal roads and bridges, fire station buildings, community centers, swimming pools, sports halls, and more.

Marcus Hoffeld, spokesman of the CDU mayors, is also advocating for this proposal. He, along with Mayor Hoffeld, is calling for the entire 1.2 billion euros to be directed towards municipal infrastructure. If passed, the funds will be distributed to municipalities, cities, and districts in the Saarland.

Among the beneficiaries are cities and districts including Marpingen and its four districts (Berschweiler, Alsweiler, Urexweiler, Marpingen). Funds targeted for urban development, swimming pool renovations, educational infrastructure, and village community centers will be allocated according to population.

The state government is expected to pass out the funds without any cuts or additional hurdles, in a similar fashion to the economic stimulus package of 2009. Stephan Toscani, chairman of the CDU state parliament fraction, is one of the advocates for this proposal.

The infrastructure package, as suggested by Roland Theis, should be designed to produce tangible benefits for the citizens in the municipalities. The municipalities in the Saarland deserve special attention in this context, to ensure they are not left behind. The Saarland government is working towards a future where the infrastructure package benefits the municipalities directly, improving the quality of life for its citizens.
