Faulty signaling networks sometimes lead to disruptions on S3 highway
The Stuttgart Public Transport and Tariff Association (VVS) has announced delays and short-term stoppages on the S-Bahn line S3. As of now, the service is experiencing significant disruptions between Backnang and Waiblingen.
These disruptions are primarily due to ongoing infrastructure upgrades, specifically the faulty signaling systems on the route. From July 26 to September 6, 2025, the S3 does not run into Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof and terminates at Fellbach instead. This limitation is part of a broader Stammstreckensperrung (core route closure) for the modernization of the inner-city tunnel section between Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (tief) and Stuttgart-Vaihingen.
