Farmer's Frustration: Delayed Compensation for Crop Losses
Farmers in the region, including Madhukar Baburao Patil from Shilottar village, are expressing frustration with delays and unclear communication regarding crop loss compensation. Patil, who suffered heavy losses due to unseasonal rainfall, has been left waiting for relief despite the insurance process being underway.
Patil had received a sanction of ₹72,466 for crop losses in the 2022-23 season, with the majority, ₹72,464, credited to his account in May 2024. However, he has not yet received compensation for this year's losses, as the assessment process is still ongoing. The farmer had cultivated paddy across seven acres, spending nearly ₹80,000, only to see it destroyed by heavy rainfall.
Patil's compensation for this year's losses amounted to a mere ₹2.30, a figure he finds inadequate. This amount was automatically deposited nearly a year later due to a technical issue. It was later revealed that the ₹2.30 was a leftover balance from earlier compensation, not the expected relief for this year's losses, due to a system glitch. Farmers in the region are demanding timely relief and greater accountability from insurance companies.
Patil's case highlights the challenges farmers face in receiving timely and adequate compensation for crop losses. Despite the ongoing assessment process, farmers are calling for improved communication and prompt resolution of technical issues to ensure they receive the relief they deserve.
