FBI Awards $129.7 Million Contract to Leidos for Biometric Services
In a significant stride towards modernizing its biometric identification capabilities, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has awarded technology giant Leidos a five-and-a-half-year contract worth $129.7 million. This contract centers around supporting the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program.
The agreement marks a continuation and expansion of Leidos' collaboration with the CJIS Division, which began in 2016. Over the past few years, the company has played a pivotal role in the development of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, a cutting-edge biometric identification system utilized by the FBI in conjunction with state, local, federal, and tribal authorities.
Leidos' expertise in implementing agile methodology and development operations concepts has been instrumental in fostering a collaborative working relationship between the company and the CJIS teams.
The contract underscores Leidos' growing influence as a key provider of biometric services for federal law enforcement entities. This partnership underscores the significance of modernizing biometric capabilities to enhance law enforcement efficiency and effectiveness in the digital age.
In light of the partnership, Leidos' role in data-and-cloud-computing and technology will likely extend to the secure storage and analysis of biometric data within the FBI's digital infrastructure. Given the significance of this modernization, the collaboration between the FBI and Leidos may also have implications for cybersecurity in the finance industry, as the accurate identification of individuals becomes increasingly vital in an era of growing digital transactions.
