Expansion of Sheng & Co leads to new name: Teng, Sheng & Fatima in Malaysia
In a significant move, Teng, Sheng & Fatima (TSF) has rebranded from Sheng & Co and strengthened its corporate and commercial practice areas with the addition of two new partners.
George Teng, who previously worked as an associate at Donovan & Ho, has been appointed as a partner at TSF. Teng brings extensive experience in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), corporate-commercial law, and multi-jurisdictional structuring and regulatory navigation to the firm.
On the other hand, Athira Fatima, who was a senior associate at TSF, has been promoted to a partner. Fatima has a background with Wong & Partners, a member firm of Baker McKenzie International. Her key practice areas include M&A, licensing, regulatory compliance, media and entertainment law, and digital economy transactions.
Fatima's recent highlights include advising a private equity fund on a 10.75-million-ringgit investment and acting as co-counsel on a 10.79-million-ringgit acquisition. She has also advised domestic and international clients across various industries such as healthcare, education, renewable energy, manufacturing, e-commerce, and creative industries.
In entertainment, Fatima has advised a prominent regional artist on commercial agreements covering music publishing, marketing, and intellectual property rights.
With the addition of Teng and Fatima, TSF's practice areas have been expanded to include capital markets, commercial real property transactions, advisory services related to laws and agreements in the entertainment industry, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) compliance.
The firm positions itself as a boutique law firm capable of providing strategic cross-border legal services in Southeast Asia, supported by a regional network and close client alignment. This aims to offer flexibility and cost-effective legal support compared to international firms.
Fatima expresses her excitement about joining the partnership and shares a joint vision with the other partners to build a leading corporate law firm recognized for personable service, commercial thinking, and regional expertise.
