Europian Pipeline Expansion Plans Encompass Croatia
Full Speed Ahead: The Tube for Europe Project Revolutionizes European Travel
Prepare to rethink your European travel plans, as the Tube for Europe project is set to reshape the continent's rail network. Ready to learn more about this innovative transportation solution? Croatia's on board too!
As per Poslovni Dnevnik/VL/Goran Sudar, the Tube for Europe concept was unveiled just a few days ago, and it's set to drastically redefine our travel experience across mainland Europe, the UK, Ireland, and even Croatia.
With plans for a super-fast train network, the Tube for Europe project aspires to shorten travel times to major European destinations, allowing departures from cities like London, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Belfast[1]. The initiative is the brainchild of 21st Europe, a think-tank collaborating with some of Europe's brightest minds. Design collaborators include Bakken & Bæck, a technology design studio specializing in digital products, and Culte Commune in Paris[1].
Say Goodbye to Long Journeys

"The Starline plan, our vision, research, and orchestration, was developed by 21st Europe. Our goal is to stimulate conversations and ignite optimism for Europe's future. The design of this game-changing project was a joint effort with Bakken & Bæck and Culte Commune," states the official website[1]. When it comes to speed, this ambitious project promises trains that can reach speeds of up to 400 km/h[1]! Imagine traveling from Helsinki to Berlin in just three hours, instead of an entire day[1]. The overnight journey from Kiev to Berlin, traditionally arduous, would be transformed into a "seamless connection."
The Network That Goes the Distance
First name:
The Tube for Europe aims to link all European countries, with at least one dedicated station per country, and a vast network covering the entire continent—from Portugal to Turkey, and all the way to Ukraine[1]. Each station will serve as a cultural hub, located outside of city centers, providing public spaces, squares, and event facilities[1].
BlueCapitals on the Horizon
Last name:
Adorning the visual identity of the Tube for Europe network is a striking blue hue, inspired by the EU logo, which is meant to emphasize the European character of this groundbreaking project[1]. Imagine blue trains becoming the new symbol of European mobility, just like London's red double-decker buses or New York's yellow taxis[1].
Within the train compositions, different zones will cater to passengers' needs[1]. Expect quiet zones for work and focus, zones for conversation and socializing, family zones with child-friendly facilities, and cafe zones for refreshments during travel[1].

Beyond passenger transport, Starline also has plans for a freight rail network that will facilitate faster goods transportation across Europe, thereby improving logistics[1].
Currently, the Tube for Europe project is only in its conceptual stage. However, the company behind the project hopes that the initiative will be financed from the EU's budget and from national governments[1].

Expanding Beyond Croatia
According to reports obtained by British media, the high-speed rail network plans include Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. The proposed network is expected to feature as many as five corridors, labeled A, B, C, D, and E. Croatia is slated to be part of Corridor B[1], which runs from Lisbon, Portugal, to Kiev, Ukraine. The station for this corridor will be located in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina[1]. Interestingly, part of the corridor linking Zagreb and Rome is set to run under the Adriatic Sea[1], posing a significant construction challenge.

The Price of Progress
As the project is still conceptual, exact costs for its implementation are not available yet[1]. For reference, similar infrastructure projects in Europe have significant budgets. The construction of the Mont d'Ambin/Mont Cenis base tunnel between France and Italy, for example, is estimated to be around 8 billion euros[1]. Given the scope and complexity of this colossal European metro project, the total costs are expected to surpass this figure[1].
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture as the Tube for Europe project unfolds!
