EU money dispensed to Romanian entrepreneur for extension and modernization of hazelnut farms
A Modern Twist for Romania's Hazelnut Farms
Meet Dorin Bob, a savvy entrepreneur hailing from Transylvania, gaining fame for his agricultural ventures in the heart of Romania. With fingers in the agricultural and real estate pies, Dorin's latest project, dubbed "Pădurea cu Aluni," is set to transform Romania's farmscape.
Recently, Dorin secured a whopping €4.6 million in European Union funding for this ambitious endeavor. The aim? To develop the nation's largest hazelnut plantation, and with the current progress, he's well on his way[1][2].
Currently, he manages 460 hectares of hazelnut trees in the village of Necopoi, with an additional 211 hectares primed and ready for cultivation in the nearby area of Sâi. His sights are set on expanding operations beyond the 1,000-hectare mark, positioning himself among the top hazelnut producers in the region[2].
But it's not just about scale — it's about quality. To achieve this, Dorin plans to invest in next-gen agricultural equipment. Think: drones for precision spraying, multispectral drones for monitoring plant health, GPS-guided machinery for mechanical treatment, an agile multifunctional robot with its own navigation system, and a state-of-the-art fertigation system, just to name a few[2].
"EU funding offers a vital lifeline for modernizing Romanian agriculture," Dorin remarked. "Implementing structured projects doesn't just attract resources but also bolsters local development by generating employment, constructing infrastructure, and creating opportunities for budding entrepreneurs," he added[2].
It's no secret that the humble hazelnut is gaining ground in Romania. As traditional crops succumb to the pressures of climate change, the nutty industry represents a resilient, viable alternative. International demand is further fueling its growth[3].
To delve further into the Romanian hazelnut market, Arovit, a key domestic food producer offering over 150 products, has launched a new venture. Their target? To create the largest hazelnut plantation in the country, receiving technical backing from confectionery giant Ferrero, who's keen on developing a local hazelnut supply chain in Romania[1][2].
