EU Extends Austria's VAT Measure Until 2027

The European Commission has extended Austria's special VAT measure. The decision, COM(2024) 448, allows Austria to continue prohibiting VAT deductions on goods and services used mainly for non-business purposes until December 31, 2027.

The Commission adopted this decision without revealing the name of the official who approved it. Austria had sought to maintain the 90 percent non-business use threshold for VAT deductions. The country must now submit any further extension requests to the European Commission by March 31, 2027.

This extension ensures Austria can continue its current VAT policy until the end of 2027. After that, Austria will need to seek another extension if it wishes to maintain this special measure.
