Epstein Files expose global financial ties to Russia and elite figures
Newly released documents from the Epstein Files reveal a vast network of financial and political connections. The records show payments routed through Austrian banks, ties to Russian officials, and links to high-profile figures. Among those named are former US President Bill Clinton, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and members of the British royal family.
The files also expose Epstein's use of Austrian financial institutions to move large sums of money across borders, including transactions involving Russian banks and mysterious payments to young women.
In 2016, Jeffrey Epstein transferred €2,750 to an account at UniCredit Bank Austria, connected to Wiener Wohnen, Vienna's municipal housing agency. His attorney, Darren Indyke, approved the transaction but later faced legal action for his alleged role in Epstein's crimes. Epstein's accountant, Richard Kahn, also managed parts of his financial affairs and was later named as a co-executor of his estate.
Epstein's financial activity extended beyond Austria. In 2015, he moved 13.7 million rubles (€172,800) from Raiffeisen Bank International in Vienna to its Moscow branch. Deutsche Bank, where many of his major expenses were processed, later paid $225 million in fines for its dealings with him and weak anti-money laundering checks. Payments linked to Epstein also reached recipients in Italy, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The documents highlight Epstein's efforts to build ties with Russia, with over 1,000 mentions of Vladimir Putin and nearly 6,000 references to "Russia." His connections included Kremlin officials and intelligence figures. Meanwhile, his private jet landed in Vienna on March 22, 2019, for a five-hour stay, though it remains unclear who he met during that time.
Austria's role in global wealth management made it an attractive hub for Epstein's transactions. The country's banking system has long been used by foreign investors, dynasties, and business families to store vast fortunes.
The Epstein Files confirm his use of Austrian banks to shift money internationally, including payments to young women through entities like the Butterfly Trust. Deutsche Bank's penalties and the presence of Russian-linked transactions underscore the scale of his financial operations.
The documents also reinforce Epstein's systematic cultivation of powerful contacts, from Western politicians to Russian officials. While some details remain undisclosed, the records provide a clearer picture of his global financial and political reach.
