Twitter is undergoing a significant change, with the social media platform announcing a major makeover for its blue badge. The latest development comes after the removal of the 'Authorities' tag, a feature that was initially introduced but later rescinded on Wednesday.

The 'Authorities' tag was applied to select verified accounts, including those of government officials, industrial firms, business partners, major media outlets, publishers, and some individuals. However, the decision to introduce and subsequently remove the tag remains a mystery, as the name of the Twitter employee responsible for the decision has not been disclosed.

American YouTuber Marques Brownlee confirmed the removal of the tag in a tweet, sparking speculation about the future of this feature. In response to Brownlee's tweet, Elon Musk, Twitter's 'Problem Hotline Driver,' reaffirmed his $8 charge for the blue badge, despite heavy opposition. Musk further stated, 'I just eliminated it ... Blue check will be the great leveler.'

Musk's comment suggests a return to the traditional blue badge, which signifies verified accounts, for all users. This move aligns with Musk's earlier statement that Twitter will maintain what works and change what doesn't.

It is worth noting that Twitter's new $8 service with the blue confirmation mark has not yet been launched. However, Musk has been vocal about his plans for the platform, stating that Twitter will make many changes in the coming months.

Esther Crawford, Twitter's early stage products executive, clarified that not all formerly validated accounts will receive the 'Authorities' label. This suggests that the feature was intended to be more exclusive, with the tag initially planned to be applied to significant media outlets and governments.

The 'Authorities' tag was a new feature intended to be part of Twitter's new service. Its introduction and subsequent removal have raised questions about the direction Twitter is taking under Musk's leadership. Despite the uncertainty, one thing is clear: Twitter continues to evolve, promising an exciting future for its users.
