In the bustling city of Almaty, the idea of a "city without boundaries" is being realized, where new districts are being developed with both residential and social amenities. As reported by Almaty.tv, this plan aims to make housing and infrastructure like clinics, hospitals, schools, kindergartens, and shopping centers, easily accessible in these new districts.

During an online briefing, Almas Khan Akhmejanov, the head of the Almaty City Planning and Urbanism Department, spoke about the progress of this project. He noted that despite the pandemic, the construction pace in the city has not only remained steady but even surpassed last year's figures.

According to the Department's data, they plan to commission approximately 2.39 million square meters of housing in 2020, including:

  • Commercial construction: 1.59 million sq.m, or 17,420 apartments
  • Individual residential houses: 510,000 sq.m, or 2,062 houses
  • State-funded housing: 290,000 sq.m, or 5,206 apartments
  • Dormitories: 4,600 sq.m

From January to October 2020, 1,609,000 sq.m of housing was commissioned, along with 12,925 apartments and 1,722 individual residential houses. State-funded housing commission amounted to 8,600 sq.m, or 120 apartments, representing a significant increase compared to the same period in 2019.

By the end of 2020, it is planned to commission 785,000 sq.m, including:

  • Commercial construction: 421,000 sq.m, or 4,615 apartments
  • Individual residential houses: 83,000 sq.m, or 332 houses
  • State-funded housing: 281,000 sq.m, or 3,849 apartments

Furthermore, an additional 208,600 sq.m is planned to be commissioned by the end of the year:

  • Commercial construction (9 residential complexes): 194,000 sq.m, or 2,384 apartments
  • Individual residential houses: 14,000 sq.m, or 56 houses

Taking all of this into account, by the end of the year, it is projected to commission 2,604,900 sq.m, including 25,007 apartments and 2,110 individual residential houses—an increase of 124% compared to the same period in 2019.

Though precise figures for the targeted housing commission in Almaty for 2020 and the progress from January to October 2020 are not provided explicitly, one can infer that housing construction in Almaty has likely experienced growth during that period, inline with the expanding construction sector nationwide, supported by increased investments and ongoing infrastructure projects. Nevertheless, consulting local government or Kazakhstan's detailed housing and construction statistical reports from 2020 would be necessary for more accurate data.

The expanding construction sector in Almaty, with increased investments, is contributing to a significant growth in housing commission, as the plan includes commissioning approximately 2.6 million square meters of housing by the end of 2020. This includes various real-estate investments such as commercial construction, individual residential houses, and state-funded housing, marking a potential rise in opportunities for finance and investing in the city's real-estate market.
