Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority initiates Phase II renovations on the waiting areas of marine transport stations.
In a significant step towards sustainable and integrated mobility, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has initiated Phase II of a project to upgrade waiting areas at marine transport stations across the city.
The project, which focuses on enhancing five key stations - Al Fahidi, Baniyas, Al Seef, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Bluewaters - aims to improve the marine transport experience by providing modern, air-conditioned waiting areas, dedicated spaces for People of Determination, and integrating advanced safety systems including surveillance cameras and fire alarms.
Design-wise, the upgraded stations draw inspiration from Dubai’s traditional wooden abras, blending the emirate's maritime heritage with contemporary urban aesthetics to celebrate its cultural and architectural identity. The stations will fully comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity through ramps, accessible pathways, and supportive facilities.
Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at RTA's Public Transport Agency, stated that this initiative is part of a long-term master plan to develop marine transport infrastructure and elevate service quality. The project aligns with Dubai’s sustainability goals by encouraging public transport use, reducing dependence on private vehicles, and enhancing overall urban mobility.
The project also aims to strengthen connectivity between marine stations and other public transport modes like the metro, trams, and buses, as well as major landmarks and residential areas. This will make marine transport more appealing by offering an inclusive and comfortable environment.
In summary, Phase II of the RTA's project aims to enhance marine transport stations in terms of modern, comfortable, and air-conditioned waiting areas, dedicated facilities for People of Determination compliant with universal design, architectural design blending traditional and modern elements, advanced safety and surveillance systems, improved connectivity with other public transport, and overall enhancement of customer satisfaction and experience. The project is a testament to RTA's commitment to delivering world-class services and supporting the Government of Dubai’s vision to deliver world-class services to residents, tourists, and visitors while promoting customer happiness and a higher quality of life.
