District residents are lodging a grievance with the local administration.

In the heart of Mönchengladbach, a contentious issue has arisen regarding traffic regulations and urban planning. The left turn onto Preyerstraße from Dahlener Straße, previously prohibited, has been reinstated, aiming to alleviate congestion on Morr Street. However, this decision has sparked controversy due to Preyerstraße's history as an accident hotspot and contribution to traffic congestion.

The decision to allow the left turn was made after thorough traffic management reviews and potential safety improvements. Despite this, the area's accident record and congestion issues remain a cause for concern for many local residents.

One of the main concerns revolves around the planned gap closure street between Hubertusstraße and Monschauer Straße, which is still in the planning or approval stages. This street is expected to improve traffic distribution and reduce strain on problematic turns like the one onto Preyerstraße.

However, the construction of this planned parallel street has been delayed, and its development is being closely monitored. Georg Lehnen, a local resident, finds it absurd that the planned street is overgrown and barely passable, as it violates the existing planning law of the land use plan, which designates the street as a traffic street.

The controversy has led to the formation of a citizens' initiative, with approximately 80 residents attending meetings and information events. The group has expressed concern about the potential impact of the left-turn regulation on emergency routes, particularly the main emergency route from Morr Street.

The firefighter from Morr Street has addressed the politicians at one of the meetings, expressing his concern about the left-turn regulation. The director of the retirement home on Preyerstraße is among the residents who have signed against the left-turn regulation, alongside many others from Dahlener Straße and Morr.

Annette Adolfs, another local resident, suggests making Pongser Straße a local traffic street could be a solution to prevent increased traffic on Preyerstraße. She believes that the construction of the planned parallel street would be a "real solution" to address the traffic issues.

The District Government of Düsseldorf has confirmed the receipt of the complaint and will ask the city of Mönchengladbach for a statement in the next step. For the most current and detailed status, checking the latest updates from the local city's traffic department or municipal planning office would provide official information.

  1. Concerns about the potential impact on emergency routes, particularly from Morr Street, have been raised, as the left-turn regulation on Preyerstraße may disrupt the main emergency route.
  2. The construction of the planned parallel street, intended to improve traffic distribution and reduce strain on problematic turns, is currently delayed and may violate the existing planning law of the land use plan.
