Deutsche Bahn is reconstructing the railway junction at Großkorbetha.
Deutsche Bahn Commences Renovation of Großkorbetha Crossing Structure
In a move to modernize its infrastructure, Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced the renovation of the historic Großkorbetha crossing structure. The work, scheduled for completion by 2027, will involve the replacement of the over 100-year-old bridge with a new steel-concrete construction.
As part of the renovation, specialists will also adjust the underlying tracks, install new switches, and work on the overhead lines and signaling technology. A single-week closure of the track between Großkorbetha and Großlehna is planned for June 6 to 13, 2025, during which trains will be diverted, and buses will serve as an alternative for passengers.
For passengers traveling to and from Leipzig, specific services will be affected. The RE 15 line will divert via Leipzig (Hbf.) - Gröbers - Großkorbetha, omitting stops at Leipzig-Möckern, Leipzig-Rückmarsdorf, Markranstädt, Großlehna, and Bad Dürrenberg. On the RB 20 line, buses will replace trains between Markranstädt and Großkorbetha.
Trains to and from Halle (Saale) will not be affected, and long-distance trains will be detoured via Gröbers. However, both regional and long-distance travel times will be extended. Passengers are advised to check the current traffic situation before starting their journey using the information services of Deutsche Bahn and Abellio.
To stay updated on the renovation schedule, passengers should visit the DB website for announcements or press releases regarding the Großkorbetha crossing renovation. It is also advisable to reach out to DB's customer service for personalized advice on travel during the renovation period.
In the context of the renovation, Deutsche Bahn might collaborate with other companies in the public-transit industry to ensure smooth transportation alternatives for passengers, such as buses, during the temporary closure of the track. The modernization of Deutsche Bahn's infrastructure, including the Großkorbetha crossing structure, could potentially spur innovation and advancements in the finance sector, particularly in terms of financing large-scale transportation projects.
