Neasham Road Development in Darlington Moving Forward

Darlington Borough Council's housing and building services teams have made significant strides in their commitment to increase the number of affordable homes across the borough. Over 400 homes have already been designed and built, and the latest addition to this initiative is the Neasham Road scheme.

Planning consent for this project was approved in September 2020, and the development is set to include 150 properties in total. As of the current development, 21 properties have been completed, and tenants are ready to move in.

Councillor Matthew Roche, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for health and housing, expressed his satisfaction with the work done during a tour of the first phase of new properties at Neasham Road. He also mentioned that the new builds are a key part of the recently agreed council plan aimed at reducing the number of people on the housing waiting list.

In addition, new residents have been invited to take part in a consultation for a potential play area within the development. If approved, work on the play area could start in spring 2025 and be completed by summer.

However, there appears to be no publicly available or recent detailed information about the second phase of the Neasham Road development project, its timeline, or rent-to-buy schemes as of August 2025. For precise updates on development phases or financing options, checking directly with the local Darlington council planning department, the development company's official communications, or local housing associations might provide the most reliable and current information.

It is worth noting that some properties in the later stages of the development will be offered as rent-to-buy, which the council stated would be the first step towards affordable home ownership.
