Customs Seize Swiss Racing Car on A96, Driver Fined €480
Customs officers on the A96 near Neuravensburg recently intercepted a Swiss-registered Opel Kadett 1200 S during a routine check. The driver's lack of necessary customs papers led to a hefty bill of around 480 euros in import duties and fines.
The vehicle in question was a bare chassis, equipped with a roll bar, intended for racing in Switzerland. It had been brought to Germany for the fitting of new axles. The driver's inability to present the required documents resulted in the significant penalty.
The Hauptzollamt Ulm, responsible for the interception, could not provide the name of the head of their press department at the time of this report.
The incident serves as a reminder for drivers to ensure they have all necessary customs papers when transporting vehicles across borders. The Opel Kadett 1200 S, now subject to import duties and fines, remains a stark example of the importance of proper documentation.
