Customs Raid Uncovers 41 Suspected Illegal Employment Cases in Ulm's Construction Sites
Customs officers from the Financial Control of Black Work recently conducted a surprise inspection at 16 construction sites in Ulm's district. The operation involved 70 investigators who checked 266 workers across various types of construction sites.
The inspection, carried out without prior suspicion, covered multi-family houses, residential complexes, larger construction sites, and renovation or demolition work. It was part of a Europe-wide operation from September 22 to 26, 2025.
Investigators are now following up on indications in 41 cases. They have already examined business docs from 12 employers, with more potentially requested. These employers were all gastronomy businesses in Göppingen and Friedrichshafen, but specific names were not disclosed.
The final results are not yet available as data collection and evaluation are still ongoing. Some business docs are yet to be requested. The inspection aims to ensure compliance with employment regulations and prevent illegal employment in the construction industry.
