Customs Raid in Saxony-Anhalt Uncovers Illegal Workers and Wage Theft

Customs officers in Saxony-Anhalt have uncovered suspected labour law violations at a solar field construction site in the Saalekreis district. The inspection revealed that eight foreign workers were residing and working illegally in Germany, while some workers also reported not receiving the legal minimum wage.

The operation, led by the Main Customs Office Magdeburg, involved questioning around 50 workers on site. It was discovered that eight workers were living and working in Germany without the necessary residence permits. This led to criminal proceedings being initiated against these workers for suspected illegal residence.

Separately, administrative proceedings have been launched against a Polish company, the employer of these workers. The company is accused of unauthorized employment of foreigners, as their workers' identification documents were submitted to the foreign authority for further alien law measures, ultimately resulting in the workers' departure from Germany. Additionally, there are suspicions of minimum wage violations, with some workers alleging they were not paid the legal minimum or collective wage.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Customs Office in Magdeburg continuing to probe the Polish employer for alleged unlawful employment of foreign workers. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to labour laws and immigration regulations to ensure fair treatment and protection of all workers.
