Croatia’s Goat Meat Market Grows in 2024 Amid Shifting Trade and Yields

Croatia’s goat meat market witnessed notable changes in 2024. Production and imports both surged, while consumption patterns shifted. The latest figures reveal a mixed picture of growth and challenges for the sector this year.

The market value of goat meat in Croatia climbed by X% in 2024, reaching $X. This increase came alongside a X% rise in production, which expanded to $X. Despite this growth, the average yield per animal dropped to X kg per head, suggesting potential efficiency concerns.

Imports soared to X tons, with Greece remaining the top supplier. The average import price stood at $X per ton, reflecting steady demand. Meanwhile, domestic slaughter numbers also grew, with X heads processed—a X% jump from 2023. On the export side, Croatia shipped X kg of goat meat in 2024, primarily to the Netherlands. The average export price was $X per ton, indicating stable international trade. However, consumption levels remained below their 2012 peak of $X, with figures staying lower throughout the past decade. Production had previously seen a X% growth spike in 2020, but the latest data shows a more gradual upward trend.

The 2024 figures highlight a dynamic year for Croatia’s goat meat industry. Higher production and imports point to a growing market, though yields and consumption have not matched past highs. With Greece as the key import partner and the Netherlands as the main export destination, trade flows remain strong.
