Crackdown on Illegal Workers in Hesse Kitchens Nets 9 Arrests
In a recent crackdown, the Main Customs Office Giessen inspected 38 establishments across North, East, and Central Hesse, uncovering nine individuals working without necessary permits in restaurant kitchens. The operation, part of a nationwide focus action, also revealed suspected underpayment of minimum wage, performance fraud, and social security notification violations.
In Limburg-Weilburg and Friedberg, two Albanians and a Pakistani were found working illegally in kitchens. The inspections, involving over 80 customs officers and local finance offices, targeted illegal employment, minimum wage violations, and irregularities in social security obligations. Around 130 employment relationships were checked on-site across different areas in Hesse. In Giessen, a Pakistani and an Indian were also found working without permits. Employers face consequences if the violations are confirmed.
The nationwide focus action by the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit has led to the arrest of nine individuals for illegal residence. The inspections, which focused on detecting illegal employment, minimum wage violations, and social security obligations, have highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of employment regulations in the restaurant sector.
