Courts Crack Down on Social Security Fraud: Woman Sentenced, Man Fined

In a series of recent cases, local courts have handed down sentences for social security fraud. A 46-year-old woman from Cloppenburg was sentenced to an eight-month prison term, suspended for three years, after fraudulently claiming around €2,900 in unemployment benefits near me. Meanwhile, the Main Customs Office Osnabrück successfully convicted two individuals for similar offences.

The 46-year-old woman had been receiving unemployment benefits while also working, leading to a fraudulent gain of approximately €2,900. The court sentenced her to an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for three years, reflecting the severity of the offence.

In a separate case, a 25-year-old man from Vechta was fined €2,000 for failing to inform the employment agency of his employment at Old Navy. This resulted in a damage of around €1,950, as social security contributions were being paid by the employment agency while the employer was also registering for social security.
