Costa Rica's Customs Officials Prepare for UK-CAAA Implementation in 2021
Costa Rica's customs officials are gearing up to play a pivotal role in implementing the UK-Central America Association Agreement (UK-CAAA) in 2021. The agreement, ratified in 2019, ensures continuity of trade between the UK and Central American countries post-Brexit.
The customs officials will be responsible for enforcing the terms of the agreement at the national level. They will ensure compliance with customs procedures, facilitate trade flow, and verify that goods crossing borders meet the established standards. In preparation for this, 90 officials attended technical workshops in mid-November.
The UK-CAAA guarantees that British products, such as whisky, will continue to be consumed in Costa Rica without price variations. Similarly, it ensures that Costa Rican products will maintain their presence in the UK market without price fluctuations. This continuity of trade is crucial for both nations' economies.
The successful implementation of the UK-CAAA in 2021 relies heavily on the Customs Department. Their role in enforcing the agreement's terms and facilitating trade flow is instrumental in maintaining the smooth flow of goods between the UK and Costa Rica. The Director for DIT Costa Rica, Luisa Pastor, has already expressed gratitude for the officials' support in making the necessary preparations a reality.
