Road Maintenance Projects Underway in Kenton and Campbell Counties
A series of road maintenance projects are currently underway in Kenton and Campbell counties, affecting several key routes including Madison Pike, Dixie Highway, and Alexandria Pike. Here's a breakdown of the projects and their schedules.
Madison Pike (KY 17), Kenton County
Paving work on Madison Pike is now complete, with the last task - installing rumble strips - yet to be scheduled. The project, which began on June 24, 2025, covers the stretch from Moffett Road (KY 2042) at mile point 7.97 to just north of KY 14 at mile point 4.94. Currently, there are no scheduled lane closures for this portion.
Dixie Highway (U.S. 25), Kenton County
Paving work on Dixie Highway is scheduled to occur on Friday night, August 22, and Sunday night, August 24. The work will take place from Hallam Avenue at mile point 6.26 to Carran Drive at mile point 7.88. A single lane closure is in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with one lane maintained in each direction at all times. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by Monday, August 25.
Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27), Campbell County
Pavement preparation work is ongoing on Alexandria Pike, with paving scheduled to start on Monday, August 25. The work will take place from Bluegrass Avenue at mile point 20.49 to Moock Road (KY 1632) at mile point 19.84. A single lane closure is in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with one lane maintained in each direction at all times. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by Thursday, August 28.
In addition to these projects, crews are also working on improving roadway drainage on Burlington Pike west of Green Acres Lane (8.2 mile point) by installing a cross culvert.
Motorists are advised to find an alternate route during the closure of Burlington Pike, as it will be closed for a temporary period from August 8 to August 13.
On Friday, August 8, crews put the signal on 'flashing yellow' at the Pleasant Valley Road (KY 237) & Founders Way Intersection to get motorists accustomed to the new traffic light. On Monday, August 11 around noon, the traffic signal and pedestrian crosswalk signals will be put online at this intersection.
These projects are part of a preventive maintenance effort that began on June 24, 2025, and include various tasks like crack sealing and electrical work. For more details, refer to the KYTC District 6 Roadshow updates1.
- despite the ongoing road maintenance projects in both Kenton and Campbell counties, industry in Covington might experience delays in transportation due to the road closures and lane restrictions, particularly on Dixie Highway and Alexandria Pike.
- Residents in the finance sector within Kenton County might need to adjust their commute routines, given the paving work scheduled on Dixie Highway and the expected closure of Burlington Pike.
- As the projects in Kenton and Campbell counties progress, motorists traveling between these counties should monitor the weather, as unexpected changes could impact the completion dates of the road maintenance projects, specifically those on Dixie Highway, Alexandria Pike, and possibly Burlington Pike.
